IREJN had a great time at Sun Day, on Sept 21 at Central Connecticut State University. Sun Day was a global daylong event to celebrate wind and solar and Connecticut was no exception. With events all over the state, CT gathered to advocate for clean renewable energy, network with other advocates, and enjoy a beautiful (and appropriately sunny) day. At the main CCSU event, IREJN made tasty s’mores for attendees, cooked in our homemade solar ovens, crafted lovingly out of pizza boxes. (And yes, we had vegan and gluten-free options!)
Making your own solar oven is easy and a great activity for kids. In addition to s’mores, you can make nachos and mini-pizzas. If you would like to do this at home or at your house of worship, you can download the activity sheet here.

IREJN also celebrated Sun Day with Temple Bnai Israel in Willimantic on Monday, October 6. Temple Bnai Israel, who will be installing solar in the spring as part of a plan to become net-zero, selected the first day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, a the date of their Sun Day celebration. We gathered to make signs celebrating solar power, held a rally in front of the synagogue (got a lot of supportive honks!) and then had lovely ceremony and potluck under the sukkah.

In Boston on Sunday, Sept 21, IREJN Board member Nancy Leckerling and her husband, Jon, joined Rev. Jim Antal and thousands of others for a meaningful worship service followed by a march and rally at the Capitol building.
