Sun Day – Sept 21

SAVE THE DATE!  September 21, 2025 will be Sun Day in a variety of ways.  Yes, it is the day when people of many different religious traditions and spiritualities gather for worship and other spiritual practices.  Yet, September 21st will be a special day to celebrate the gifts of the Sun and to consider our role as stewards of Earth.

Last year, Bill McKibben, founder of Third Act and 350.org, author and leading voice on climate change, dreamed of a day that invites us away from burning Earth’s fossil fuels towards a time when we harness the energy of the Sun to meet our human needs.  From that dream, Sun Day developed, and religious and spiritual communities across the nation are invited to join the effort.

Some spiritual communities will be sponsoring teach-ins in their local communities.  Others are going to partner with environmental advocates in their areas to offer a variety of activities.   And many others will observe Sun Day during their Sunday worship services.  Each state has an organizing team, including Connecticut.  We can help you be in touch with us.

Third Act is the primary sponsor of this nation-wide day of action, education and the building of harmony and community.  We have been joined by Fossil Free Media, Sierra Club, Green Faith USA, Solar United Neighbors, Rewiring America, the United Church of Christ and the Interreligious Eco-Justice Network.  To learn more, go the website:  https://www.sunday.earth/get-involved.

This is a moment to unleash our creativity and build partnerships in every community to strengthen our resolve to live sustainably, ethically and in harmony with our only home, Earth.  The Sun can help us do that and organizers are hoping that September 21st will rival the original Earth Day in bringing millions of us together to be energized, tap into our hope for us and this blessed creation, to nurture our joy and to recommit ourselves to faithful stewardship.
