The Rights of Nature

The Rights of Nature

When

February 3, 2026
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Event Type

Wildlife, plant, flowers and trees, bodies of water…all have their own sacredness, apart from humanity. Join IREJN and the Yale Forum for Religion and Ecology for an inspiring webinar on nationwide efforts to recognize the rights of Nature.

Tyler Mark Nelson, who directs the Yale Forum’s Living Earth Community program, will speak about the histories and opportunities presented by Earth Law and the Rights of Nature, as well as the ways that human and more-than-human rights are intertwined.

In addition, we will hear from Juniper Lee, a Fort Lewis College student and Earth Law Center intern. Juniper played a key role, along with classmates in her Water Justice course, in the successful effort to pass a resolution which recognizes the rights of the Animus River in Durango, Colorado.
